To send email campaigns and automation emails, your store needs a sending identity: a TextYess address or your own email domain. You see your setup in Settings → Email → Email settings. To open it, click Settings at the bottom of the sidebar, then Email settings under Email. The page shows your Sending identity, the Warm-up & sending limits, the domain status and the Suppression list. These pages appear when email is turned on for your store. Email is available for stores on Shopify.

Turn on email sending for your store

You set up email sending on the Set up your email domain page. To open it: The page offers two options:
  • Configure your own DNS (Recommended): you send from your own domain. Click Book a call to set it up with the TextYess team, or click Prefer to set it up yourself? Configure DNS records →.
  • Use TextYess DNS: you send at once from a TextYess address. Click Send instantly. This option shows only when a TextYess address is available.
You can change your setup later from Email settings.

Send email from a TextYess address (no DNS records)

With Use TextYess DNS, you send from a warm TextYess address with your brand name. You do not add DNS records and you do not wait.
  1. Open the Set up your email domain page from Settings → Email → Email settings.
  2. In Use TextYess DNS, click Send instantly.
  3. When Ready to send shows, click Create your first campaign.
People see your From Name as the sender. The address is on a TextYess domain. Replies to that address do not reach you, so set Reply-To in each campaign. If your store has a support email, TextYess fills Reply-To with it. Your store starts at 300 emails a day and grows with warm-up. For the best inbox placement, move to your own domain later.

Send email from your own domain

To send from your own domain, you add DNS records at your domain host. Use a subdomain that only TextYess uses, for example updates.yourstore.com.
  1. Open the Set up your email domain page from Settings → Email → Email settings.
  2. Click Prefer to set it up yourself? Configure DNS records →.
  3. In step Domain, type the domain in Name and click Add Domain.
  4. In step DNS Records, add each record of the table at your domain host.
  5. Click Verify DNS Records.
When all records pass, step Verification shows All DNS records verified successfully. Your domain then starts its warm-up. Your store can have one own domain. If you cannot edit DNS yourself, click Book a call instead.

Add the DNS records for your email domain

In step DNS Records of the email domain setup, the table lists the records to add: SPF, DKIM, DMARC and two MX records. Each row has a Type, a Name, a Value and a Status.
  1. Sign in to the website where you manage the DNS of your domain.
  2. For each row, add a record with the same type, name and value. Click a name or a value to copy it.
  3. Go back to TextYess and click Verify DNS Records.
The Name (host) is the short name. The Full name includes your domain. Some providers, for example Shopify, add your domain to the name by themselves. For these providers, paste the short Name (host). If you paste the full name there, your domain shows twice and the record does not verify. When you copy a long TXT value with a split badge, TextYess copies it in parts. Paste it as it is.

Send the DNS records to your IT person

If you cannot add the DNS records yourself, TextYess can email them to the person who manages your domain.
  1. Open the email domain setup at the DNS Records step.
  2. Click Can’t set this up yourself? Email your DNS consultant.
  3. Type the Consultant email. Optionally, add a Note.
  4. Click Send instructions.
TextYess emails the records and the setup steps to this person. Their replies go to you. When they finish, open the setup again and click Verify DNS Records.

Why your email domain is not verified yet

DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to spread. While the DNS Records step of the email domain setup is open, TextYess checks your records every 30 seconds. During this time, the rows show Propagating. You can leave the page. After one hour, Records still not verified shows. Make sure that each record’s name and value match exactly. Look for your domain twice in the name. Then click Verify DNS Records again. TextYess also checks a domain that is not verified in the background, about once an hour. The box What to fix shows each record with a problem:
  • “not found”: add the record.
  • “found at” another name: your provider added your domain twice. Type the short name.
  • “not valid”: replace the value you have with the value that TextYess shows. Do not add a second record.

Fix a DNS record on an email domain that already sends

TextYess checks the DNS records of your own domain every day, and every hour while a record has a problem. When a record is not valid, Settings → Email → Email settings shows a warning in Domain authentication. Your domain still sends, but some providers, like Outlook, reject your emails until you fix the record. To fix it:
  1. In Domain authentication, click Manage DNS.
  2. Read the list under A DNS record needs fixing. Each line shows the record and the value to use.
  3. Change the record at your domain host.
You do not need to click verify. TextYess checks the records again every hour.

Turn on open tracking for your email domain

On your own domain, an extra CNAME record turns on open-rate tracking for Gmail and Apple Mail. The setup shows it in Open tracking, with the badge optional. You can finish the setup without it.
  1. In the DNS Records step, add the record from the Open tracking table at your domain host.
  2. After your domain is verified, open the Open tracking card on the email setup page.
  3. Click Verify now. You can click it again after 30 seconds.
The status goes from Not configured to Provisioning SSL, Activating and then Active. Degraded means that the record was removed from your DNS. Add it again. Error means that the certificate was not issued. If Error stays, contact support.

Set the sender postal address for your emails

US anti-spam law asks for a postal address in every marketing email. When you send from your own domain, your brand is the sender, so you add your own address.
  1. Open Settings → Email → Email settings.
  2. In Sender postal address, type the Street address, City, State / Province, Postal code and Country.
  3. Click Save changes.
The address shows in the automatic footer of your emails. If your email has its own Unsubscribe link, TextYess does not add this footer, so put your address in the email yourself. The card shows only when you send from your own domain. When you send from a TextYess address, the footer shows the TextYess postal address. If the address is missing, the checklist on the Send step of a campaign warns you.

What email warm-up is

Warm-up protects the reputation of a new sending domain. Inbox providers do not trust a domain that suddenly sends many emails. So TextYess raises your daily email limit step by step. Warm-up starts when your own domain is verified, or when you start to send from a TextYess address. During warm-up, a chip on Campaigns → Emails shows Warming up, the day and today’s limit. For your own domain, open Settings → Email → Email settings. The Warm-up & sending limits card shows Warming up or Warmed, the day and Today’s usage. The day shows as, for example, Day 3 of 14. Warm-up counts only good sending days, not calendar days. A domain that sends little can stay in warm-up for a long time. When you move from a TextYess address to your own domain, the new domain starts its warm-up at day 1.

Email warm-up daily limits

During warm-up, your daily email limit depends on the warm-up day: The daily limit applies to email campaigns. Automation emails do not use it. The count resets every night at midnight, Italy time. When a campaign has more contacts than today’s limit, TextYess sends to the limit. It keeps the others for the next day, and the campaign stays Sending.

Why email warm-up does not move to the next day

Each night, TextYess looks at the emails your domain sent the day before. It moves warm-up to the next day only when all of these are true:
  • The domain sent at least half of that day’s limit. Automation emails count too. With a limit of 1,000, it must send 500 or more.
  • Not more than 3% of the sent emails bounced.
  • Not more than 0.1% of the delivered emails were marked as spam.
A day with no sends does not count. A day that fails a check keeps the same day and the same limit. To move forward, send campaigns that use at least half of your daily limit, to contacts with valid addresses. For the current day and limit, see the Warm-up & sending limits card in Settings → Email → Email settings.

How TextYess protects a warming email domain

While your domain or TextYess address warms up, TextYess sends campaigns with extra care:
  • When a campaign is larger than today’s limit, TextYess picks today’s contacts at random.
  • In a send of 200 or more emails, it first sends to a random group of 50. If more than 3% of them bounce, with at least 2 bounces, the campaign auto-pauses.
  • It sends in groups of 100 emails, about 3 minutes apart. A day of 2,000 emails takes about one hour.
  • On your own domain, it skips addresses on domains that cannot receive email, for example gmail.con.
  • If a campaign paused for bounces or complaints in the last 24 hours, or more than 3% of your emails bounced, TextYess holds new campaigns.
When the domain is warmed, the pacing and the domain check stop. The bounce limits go up to 10% for the first group of 50 and to 5% for holds. For details, see Email campaigns.

Switch from a TextYess address to your own email domain

You can move from a TextYess address to your own domain at any time.
  1. Open Settings → Email → Email settings.
  2. In Use your own domain, click Set up your own domain.
  3. Add the DNS records and click Verify DNS Records.
Until your domain is verified, you keep sending from the TextYess address. When the domain is verified, all new sends use your domain. Sending identity then shows Your own domain. Your own domain starts its warm-up at day 1, with 300 emails a day. Update From Email in your draft campaigns, so that it is on your new domain.

Change or remove your email domain

The dashboard does not have a button to remove or change your own email domain. Your store can have one own domain. To use a different domain, contact TextYess support. To see the DNS records of your current domain again, open Settings → Email → Email settings and click Manage DNS in Domain authentication.

Email bounces: hard bounces and soft bounces

A bounce is an email that did not reach the inbox.
  • A hard bounce is a permanent failure, for example an address that does not exist. TextYess adds the address to your suppression list at once. TextYess gives back the Email sends credit of a hard bounce.
  • A soft bounce is a temporary failure, for example a full inbox. TextYess adds the address to the suppression list after 3 different emails soft-bounce. A delivered email resets this count.
The campaign page shows a Bounce breakdown with hard and soft bounces and the domains that failed most. Many bounces can auto-pause a campaign, hold your next campaigns and stop warm-up from moving forward.

The email suppression list

The suppression list holds the addresses that never get email from you. TextYess fills it by itself. To open it, go to Settings → Email → Email settings and click View list. You can also click Suppression list in Campaigns → Emails. Each row shows the Email, the Reason, the Suppressed at date, the Source campaign and the Soft-bounce count. The reasons are:
  • Hard bounce, Repeated soft bounce and Complaint (marked as spam).
  • Unsubscribed and Manual.
  • Flow suppression: the Suppress Email step of an automation added it.
Search by email, or filter by Reason. A contact page shows a Suppressed badge next to the email.

Remove an address from the email suppression list

You can remove only a Flow suppression, which an automation added:
  1. Open the contact in Contacts → All Contacts.
  2. Next to the Suppressed badge, click Lift.
You cannot remove a hard bounce, a complaint, a repeated soft bounce or a manual suppression. They protect your sender reputation. An Unsubscribed address comes off the list when the person gives email consent again. Then they can get your emails again.

Import a suppression list from another email tool

When you move from another email tool, import the addresses that unsubscribed or bounced there. They will not get email from TextYess.
  1. Open the suppression list.
  2. Click Import.
  3. Upload a CSV, XLSX or XLS file with the email addresses.
  4. In Mark every address as, select Unsubscribed or Bounced. Select Bounced for a list of bounced addresses.
  5. Click Suppress N addresses.
TextYess adds addresses that are not contacts yet only to the suppression list. Nobody in the file gets email opt-in.

How unsubscribes work in TextYess emails

Every marketing email from TextYess has an unsubscribe link. If your email has no Unsubscribe link of its own, TextYess adds a footer. The footer shows your company name, your postal address if you have one, and an Unsubscribe link. You cannot remove this link. Campaign emails also have a one-click unsubscribe for inbox apps. When a person unsubscribes, TextYess:
  • Adds the address to the suppression list with the reason Unsubscribed.
  • Turns off the contact’s email opt-in.
The person then gets no more marketing emails. To place the link yourself, type {{ in a Text block and select Unsubscribe link. Then TextYess does not add its footer. The campaign page shows the Unsubscribe rate.

Spam complaints in email

A complaint is a person who marks your email as spam in their inbox app. TextYess adds the address to the suppression list with the reason Complaint. It also records a full email opt-out for the person. Complaints have low limits:
  • A campaign auto-pauses when more than 0.3% of the people mark it as spam.
  • During warm-up, a day with more than 0.1% complaints does not move warm-up forward.
  • A campaign that auto-paused for complaints holds your next campaigns on the same domain for up to 24 hours.

Email domain on hold

The email provider of TextYess can stop a domain that has too many bounces or complaints. TextYess then puts the domain on hold. Campaigns that try to send auto-pause with a reason about the domain, and nothing sends from that domain. A hold does not end by itself. TextYess support lifts it after the list that caused it is clean. Contact TextYess support. After the hold ends, open each auto-paused campaign and click Resume sending.

DMARC and BIMI for your email domain

The DMARC record that TextYess gives you uses the policy p=none. This policy meets the bulk-sender rule of Google and Yahoo, and it never blocks your own email. For your domain to verify, the DMARC name must have exactly one valid DMARC record. Its policy must be none, quarantine or reject. Two DMARC records at the same name fail. After verification, the setup page shows Strengthen protection (optional). To learn when to move to quarantine or reject, see Email deliverability: DMARC and BIMI. That page also explains how to show your logo in the inbox with BIMI.
